8 Martyrs, 2,750 injured in Lebanon Pager explosions
The Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad denied rumors circulating regarding the American University of Beirut asking its employees to get rid of their pagers roughly a week ago.
Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad has confirmed that 9 martyrs have been killed so far as a result of the explosion of pagers on Tuesday, noting that 2,750 people were injured, including about 200 in critical condition, in 100 hospitals.
An Israeli cyber attack caused the detonation of hundreds of pagers, resulting in mass casualties across several regions in Lebanon, including Beirut, Bekaa, and the south.
Abiad detailed in a press conference that the majority of injuries, in the initial tally he announced, were in the face, eyes, hand, or abdomen.
The minister explained how communication was coordinated between all those concerned to allow for the massive influx of injured people to be taken care of, emphasizing the importance of cooperation with the Hospitals Syndicate.
Abiad denied rumors circulating regarding the American University of Beirut asking its employees to get rid of their pagers roughly a week ago.
The Lebanese Minister of Information, Ziad Makary, spoke at the conference, stressing that the government condemns the Israeli attack, adding that the Israeli attacks are the responsibility of the international community.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health asked hospitals to remain on high alert and raise their preparation level while the Lebanese security forces asked citizens to clear the roads to facilitate the treatment of the injured and their transfer to hospitals
The Ministry issued an appeal to coordinate with the Red Cross to donate blood in anticipation of the need that may arise for blood units for the wounded, calling on citizens, who gather in the streets, to make room for ambulances to move quickly and transport the wounded.
For its part, the Lebanese Red Cross announced the preparation of 50 additional ambulances and 300 emergency medical technicians to help evacuate the injured.
In its first statement, Hezbollah revealed that a security and technical investigation was launched to uncover the causes and reasons behind the simultaneous explosions, noting that health and medical agencies are working to treat those injured across several hospitals.
The Lebanese Resistance bestowed mercy for the souls of the little girl and two Hezbollah members who were martyred in the attacks and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
The Resistance further called on citizens to be cautious and refrain from spreading rumors and misinformation circulated by certain sides as a tool for psychological warfare, which only serves and aids the Israeli occupation, as it continues to threaten with escalations on the northern front.
The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon affirmed its readiness, across all levels and units, to defend Lebanon and its resilient people.

Day 347: 41,252 killed, 95,497 wounded in Gaza
Israeli occupation forces committed three massacres in Gaza, killing 26 people and wounding 84 others in just 24 hours.
The number of Palestinians killed in Gaza on the 347th day of the ongoing Israeli genocidal war has risen to 41,252 with 95,497 people wounded, the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza said on Tuesday.
In its daily report, the ministry mentioned that Israeli occupation forces committed three massacres in Gaza, killing 26 people and wounding 84 others in just 24 hours, not counting those killed in the newest massacres.
Israeli occupation forces carried out a massacre on Tuesday in the al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, targeting a densely populated residential area, killing over 50 people, an Al Mayadeen correspondent confirmed.
The Civil Defense in Gaza reported that the residential area was bombed using heavy US-made bombs.
It noted that Israeli drones opened fire at Civil Defense teams as they arrived at the scene of the massacre, obstructing their efforts to rescue the wounded and remove the bodies of the martyrs.
The Civil Defense urgently called on the Red Cross to coordinate access for its teams to rescue dozens still trapped beneath the destroyed buildings, adding that they had received numerous distress calls from within the homes hit by the occupation.
Entire families were erased from the civil registry in the al-Bureij massacre, with the majority of the martyrs still trapped beneath the rubble, the civil defense added.

Civil Defense in Gaza releases 24-hour statistics report
Martyrs have been reported following raids conducted by the Israeli occupation across various areas of the Gaza Strip.
The Civil Defense in Gaza reported on Monday statistics of the number of martyrs in the past 24 hours under the Israeli occupation in the Strip.
In the Northern Governorate, three martyrs were reported as a result of Israeli bombardment targeting a group of civilians near the al-Nada Towers in Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza.
In the Gaza Governorate, six martyrs, including two children and a woman, were killed in an Israeli bombardment that struck a house belonging to the Bassal family in the al-Shama area, southeast of Gaza City.
In a separate attack, four martyrs, including a woman and a child, lost their lives when Israeli forces bombarded a home belonging to the Bahlool family in the Abu Iskander area of the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, northern Gaza City. The situation has been further exacerbated by extensive Israeli artillery shelling on multiple areas north of Street 8, particularly targeting the Islamic Complex area.
Israeli forces have continued to block the entry of cooking gas since the onset of the war, compelling residents to resort to hazardous alternatives such as plastic, cardboard, and fabric, which pose significant risks to both lives and property.
In the Central Governorate, 10 Palestinians were killed and several wounded by an Israeli strike on a house belonging to the al-Qassas family in Camp 5, the Nuseirat, central Gaza. Three martyrs and additional wounded individuals were reported after Israeli bombardment targeted a house belonging to the Muharib family in Camp 1, Nuseirat, central Gaza.
Khan Younis, Rafah still under fire
In the Khan Younis Governorate, six martyrs, including several children, were killed in an Israeli bombardment that struck a tent housing displaced persons in the Sumoud Camp near Bir 19, located in the Ma’sara area of Khan Younis.
In the Governorate of Rafah, two martyrs were recovered from the Masbah area, situated north of Rafah City.
One martyr was reported following an Israeli bombardment near the Zghoul Refrigerator intersection in northern Rafah City. Israeli forces carried out extensive bombardments and demolished residential buildings in the northwest of Rafah City.
Earlier on Monday, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on the 346th day of the ongoing Israeli genocidal war on the Strip that the number of martyrs has risen to 41,226, with 95,413 others wounded.
Between Saturday and Monday, the Israeli occupation committed three massacres against families in Gaza, killing 20 Palestinians and injuring 76 others.

'Israel' kills another journalist in Gaza, death toll rises to 173
The Gaza media office called on the international community to hold "Israel" accountable for its "crimes against journalists."
Another Palestinian journalist has been killed by "Israel" in Gaza, the government media office announced, bringing the death toll to 173 journalists killed by the occupation since October 7.
Abdullah Shakshak was a journalist who worked for multiple Arab media outlets. He was killed in the city of Rafah on Sunday afternoon when an Israeli military quadcopter conducted an airstrike.
The Gaza media office issued a statement denouncing the occupation's targeting of Palestinian journalists, urging the international community to hold "Israel" accountable for "crimes against journalists."
The statement also called for the international community, international organizations, and media and journalism organizations to “deter the occupying Tel Aviv regime, pursue it in international courts for its ongoing crimes, and pressure it to stop the genocide and the killing and assassination of Palestinian journalists.”
Journalists reporting on the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip are faced with increased risks when they are on duty, including Israeli ground operations and airstrikes, disrupted communication lines, supply shortages, and power outages.
German journalists call for protection of colleagues in Gaza
Nearly 90 journalists in Germany called last week for the protection of their colleagues in the Gaza Strip, where over 170 journalists have been killed by Israeli forces since the start of the genocidal war.
The German journalists have launched a website, Protect Journalists in Gaza, and declared that attacks on journalists constitute a war crime.
“Nevertheless, the Israeli army continues to kill our colleagues who are clearly identified as media personnel by the labels on their vests and helmets,” the statement from the group emphasized.
It pointed out that the situation for journalists in Gaza is more perilous than in other war and conflict zones and stressed the importance of diversifying sources and ensuring equal cooperation with Palestinian media professionals.
The statement also highlighted the need for news reports to critically reflect statements from all parties involved and noted that no other war or conflict zone has been as closed off to journalists as Gaza, with the Israeli regime having effectively shut the area to media professionals.
The journalists also criticized German media outlets for echoing Israeli narratives and relying exclusively on information from Israeli officials. They called on mainstream media organizations to provide more balanced coverage.
Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have lied about targeting journalists intentionally and have claimed that some cases mentioned in the report were militants "reported as journalists."

Hamas prepared for long war with Israel: Yahya Sinwar
Hamas is prepared for a long war of attrition against Israel, the leader of the Palestinian resistance movement said Monday, as he congratulated Houthi rebels in Yemen for their missile strike on Israel.
"We have prepared ourselves to fight a long battle of attrition," the Hamas leader said, asserting that Iran-aligned groups in Gaza, Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen would "break the will of Israel" after the Houthis hit central Israel in a rare missile attack on Sunday.
Sinwar said Hamas had ample resources to sustain its fight against Israel, with support from Iran-backed regional allies.
The Iran-alignedᅠHouthis, who control northern Yemen, reached central Israel with a missile on Sunday for the first time, prompting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to say Israel would inflict a "heavy price" on them.
"I congratulate you on your success in reaching the depth of the enemy entity," Sinwar said in a letter to Houthi leader Abdel-Malek al-Houthi.
Sinwar is leading Hamas in the war against Israel in the Gaza Strip, now in its 12th month.
The Hamas chief said that Israel's plans to neutralize the Palestinian resistance group had failed.
"I assure you that the resistance is fine. We have prepared ourselves to fight a long battle of attrition," he said.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said the group struck with a new hypersonic ballistic missile that traveled 2,040 km (1270 miles) in just 11-1/2 minutes.
An Israeli military official said the missile was hit by an interceptor and fragmented in the air. Missile pieces landed in fields and near a railway station. There were no direct casualties but nine people were lightly hurt while seeking cover.
Deadly Israeli attacks meanwhile raged on in the Gaza Strip, where medics and rescuers said Israeli strikes on Monday – which the military has not commented on – killed at least two dozen people.
The latest strikes came as Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned that prospects for a halt in fighting with Hezbollah in Lebanon were dimming, yet again raising fears of a wider regional conflagration.
Senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan told AFP at the weekend the group "has a high ability to continue" fighting despite losses, noting "the recruitment of new generations" to replace killed fighters.
Sinwar, in his letter to Yemen's Huthis, threatened that Iran-aligned groups in Gaza but also elsewhere in the region including Lebanon and Iraq would "break the will of Israel" after more than 11 months of war.
Independent U.N. rights experts warned that Israel risked becoming an international "pariah" over its actions in Gaza and called on Western countries to ensure accountability.

Türkiye remembers Prime Minister Adnan Menderes, victims of 1960 coup
Picture shows: Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya and relatives of the 1960 coup victims attend a commemoration event at the graves of Prime Minister Adnan Menderes, Foreign Minister Fatin Rüştü Zorlu and Minister of Finance Hasan Polatkan, Istanbul, Türkiye, Sept. 17, 2024.
Dignitaries and family members of late Prime Minister Adnan Menderes and his two ministers convened in Istanbul on Tuesday to mark the 63rd anniversary of their execution by a military junta.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya and others laid flowers on the graves of Menderes, Foreign Minister Fatin Rüştü Zorlu and Minister of Finance Hasan Polatkan in Istanbul. Polatkan and Zorlu were hanged on Sept. 16, 1961, one day before Menderes was hanged after a lengthy trial.
“It was the nation’s free will that was taken to the gallows 63 years ago,” Yerlikaya said in a speech at the commemoration event by the graves of the three men.
Menderes, who won the first genuinely multiparty election after the foundation of the Republic of Türkiye, serves as an inspiration for the country’s incumbent leadership. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan often refers to Menderes as a democracy icon. Like Menderes, Erdoğan faced a coup attempt in 2016, but the nation’s unprecedented opposition to putschists loyal to the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) quashed the putsch bid.
Yerlikaya said in his speech that coups were “treacherous attacks” on the nation’s independence and future. “Whenever our country advanced toward its ideals, whenever elected governments found widespread support, dark forces took action and used their pawns (to carry out coups),” he said.
A holder of the Medal of Independence, given to those who contributed to the War of Independence, Menderes was turned into a reviled figure by his critics as he was transforming a post-World War II Türkiye. A vicious campaign, led by the Republican People’s Party (CHP), of which Menderes was once a member, was followed by the military takeover and the subsequent arrest of people close to the government.
Menderes’ time in office lasted a mere decade but was marked with three election victories as the overwhelming public support for him and his Democrat Party are among the legacies of Menderes, a former farmer and jurist.
Ömer İleri, deputy chair of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and grandson of Tevfik İleri, a Menderes-era minister who was imprisoned by putschists and died in prison, said at the same event that the May 27, 1960 coup that led to execution of Menderes was celebrated as a holiday for two decades. İleri said the era of coups in Türkiye ended after the 2016 coup attempt and the nation was more conscious against such attempts now.
